Yale Law School Names Littler One of its Top Ten Family Friendly Firms

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (April 27, 2012) - Littler Mendelson, P.C. (Littler), the nation’s largest employment and labor law firm representing management, has been named a 2012 “Top Ten Family Friendly Firm” by Yale Law Women (YLW) for its leadership in developing and implementing family-friendly practices and policies. In addition to inclusion in the Top Ten, the firm is being awarded with YLW’s Recognition of Superior Performance in the category of “Gender Equity in Partner Promotions.”

“The family-friendly policies and practices that we have developed, and the retention and advancement of women attorneys at our firm is something we take immense pride in,” said Marko Mrkonich, president and managing director of Littler. “We continue to be committed to cultivating a working environment that enables our female attorneys to thrive while being able to strike a balance between work and family life. We are pleased to be recognized for our dedication and we thank Yale Law Women for this tremendous distinction.”

To compile its list, YLW surveyed firms included in the 2011 Vault Top 100 Law Firms list. All data collected reflects statistics from the 2011 calendar year. Categories of survey questions included percentage of female attorneys in various categories, access to and use of parental leave and emergency and on-site child care, as well as part-time and flex-time work policies, usage of part-time and flex-time policies, billable hours and compensation practices and alternative career programs. Firm responses were weighted based on a 2012 survey of Yale Law School alumni who were asked about the importance of each category of family-friendly policies and practices.

Littler has created numerous initiatives geared towards the firm’s female attorneys, including its Women’s Leadership Initiative, which supports and educates women on ways to enhance and increase leadership opportunities while maintaining a balance between career and home life. The firm also offers remote working opportunities and flex-time options, including its FlexTime Attorney program designed to promote work-life balance and provide alternate career paths for Littler attorneys.

Attorney retention is strongly emphasized at the firm through a mentorship program designed to promote associate development and inclusion. Littler maintains relationships with a number of diversity-focused bar associations and business and civic organizations and actively recruits a diverse workforce through targeted outreach programs and job fairs.
