Chambers Latin America 'Women in Law Awards' Recognizes Littler's Mexico Offices for 'Best Gender Diversity Initiative'

MEXICO CITY AND MONTERREY, MX (November 14, 2012) – The Mexico offices of Littler Mendelson, P.C. (Littler), the world’s largest employment and labor law firm representing management, have been recognized by the inaugural Chambers Latin America Women in Law Awards in the “Best Gender Diversity Initiative” category. The recognition is bestowed on firms with initiatives that support the retention, work/life balance and promotion of female lawyers.

“We are pleased to be recognized for the firm’s female diversity initiatives by the publishers of one of the legal industry’s most esteemed publications,” said Marko Mrkonich, president and managing director of Littler. “We take great pride in cultivating and nurturing a workplace environment that encourages both  work/life balance and leadership opportunities for our women attorneys, and this award truly underscores our efforts.”

To be considered for the Women in Law Awards, firms were invited to send in submissions describing initiatives undertaken on a regional scale that benefit female attorneys and demonstrating how these initiatives have directly impacted women lawyers involved in Latin American-related work.

Javiera Medina Reza, a shareholder in Littler’s Mexico City office who authored the firm’s submission, added, “As a female attorney at Littler, I have benefitted directly from the firm’s female-friendly policies and initiatives, and I am proud that Littler remains steadfast in its commitment to the retention and advancement of women.”

Littler has developed a number of programs and policies geared towards women. The firm’s Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) equips females with techniques to enhance and increase leadership opportunities while maintaining work/life balance. Additionally, Littler offers remote work and flex-time options for its attorneys. The firm’s FlexTime Attorney program encourages career/home balance and creates alternate career tracks for the firm’s attorneys. Littler’s attorney workforce is currently comprised of 48% women.
