News Alert: Littler Picks South Carolina Atty Jim O. Stuckey to Lead New Columbia Office

National Employment Law Firm Littler Mendelson Picks Former Governor’s Chief Counsel to Head Up New Columbia Office

Columbia, SC/ November 21, 2005 -- Littler Mendelson, the nation's largest employment and labor law firm, announced today that accomplished employment attorney Jim O. Stuckey II, a Chief Counsel to a former South Carolina Governor, will lead the firm's expansion into South Carolina with the opening of a Columbia office.

For Littler, the addition of the Columbia office is a strategic move designed to give the firm the flexibility it needs to provide scaleable solutions to clients in growing markets where it does not already have an established practice. Mr. Stuckey, a member of the South Carolina and North Carolina Bars, will also serve clients out of the firm's Charlotte, North Carolina office.

"As an employment attorney, I’ve long admired Littler from afar. I am thrilled to be a part of its growing Southeastern practice and have its national resources and experience at my clients' disposal," said Stuckey.

Mr. Stuckey comes to Littler from Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, LLP, where his employment and litigation practice concentrated on advising and defending employers from the full range of claims that can arise in the workplace, from sexual harassment and racial and age discrimination to wage and hour and wrongful termination. Mr. Stuckey has served as a registered lobbyist and was Chief Legal Counsel to former South Carolina Governor Jim Hodges from December 1998 until October 2001. Mr. Stuckey's experience and knowledge of the regulatory and legislative process gives him a unique and exceptionally informed perspective into the workings of government and the issues at the intersection of public policy and private enterprise.

While the transition in the Southeast from a manufacturing to a service-oriented economy has created many opportunities, it has presented unique challenges that have heightened South Carolina employers' need for sophisticated legal workplace services and solutions..

"As our clients' businesses have grown and become more complicated, so too have their problems, and the government and regulatory response, said Marylin Culp, office managing shareholder of the Charlotte office. "We are excited to add someone with Jim's experience and accomplishments, he is the perfect person to help us grow our practice and manage the increasingly complex problems faced by our clients in the Southeast."
