Today’s technologies allow more and more employees to work remotely, from home. This has led to an explosion in telecommuting during the pandemic, and a singular phenomenon we might call the “global COVID nomad” – telecommuters allowed to work from home but who, either openly or quietly, slip off and work remotely from a foreign country where the employer does not issue payroll. A related scenario is a company that recruits an overseas teleworker expressly to work from home overseas, from “day one.”

Our speakers will review the advantages and logistical challenges of international telecommuting, and provide practical tips for implementation.

This fast-paced session offers a toolkit for handling “global COVID nomad” issues, including:

  • Scenarios where the “global COVID nomad” problem arises
  • The three legal compliance challenges this situation triggers, and the risks each one conveys
  • Structures to employ a stray worker in a new overseas country, long-term
  • Compliance strategies for letting a “global COVID nomad” work abroad for just a while – and then get back home
