With the January 1, 2020 effective date quickly approaching for California's new law – commonly known as AB5 – every business must reevaluate the way it uses vendors, consultants, and service providers, each of whom were previously considered independent contractors. While some may continue to be covered by statutory exceptions, many will not. For some, the new “ABC Test" should be applied retroactively, for others it should not. This presentation will address these concerns and answer your questions regarding how to navigate the most impactful employment law to be passed in the last decade.

Independent contractor issues are also a hot topic in the health and safety world. OSHA and Cal/OSHA also provide different standards in evaluating whether an employer can be liable for violating health and safety regulations that affect independent contractors, employees of a subcontractor or staffing company employees. The speakers will discuss how human resource professionals and employment counsel can be in compliance and reduce their companies' liability and risk as to these compounding issues.
