There is a well-documented labor shortage in the construction industry. Apprenticeship is being hailed at the federal and state government level as one way for contractors to grow and keep a competent and engaged workforce. In fact, recently proposed legislation in New Jersey would require worker participation in an apprenticeship program in order for a contractor to qualify for public work. Other pending legislation proposes tax credits for contractors who offer apprenticeship to workers.
