This unique program is brought to you through a partnership between Littler Mendelson and Executive Search firm TRANSEARCH.

A first in the "Crafting Employee Policies and Managing Executive Talent" series, we discuss best practices for human resource personnel involved in creating company-wide hiring policies as well as those tasked with employing C-Suite Executives.

Steps to Hiring Top Talent

  • Success of an organization depends largely on aligning its needs with acquiring and managing top talent. Integrating best practices for talent acquisition includes utilizing pragmatic screening policies in hiring.

Social Media

  • The hiring process is transforming as a result of increasingly available personal information about potential employees on social media. Using online resources for candidate evaluation can be useful and influential in the hiring process, but can expose employers to legal liability, from privacy invasion to disparate impact issues.
  • Freedom of expression by employees is growing at a rapid pace on social media. As such, companies need to craft policies defining permissible blogging while avoiding legal pitfalls.

Background/Credit Checks

  • While necessary in screening for top candidates, criminal history and credit checks may open an employer to liability related to disparate impact and retaliation claims. Properly integrating permissible background checks in the hiring process can assist employers in avoiding such liability while vetting for the best talent.
