In the past few years, several states and municipalities have enacted laws significantly restricting certain inquiries in the hiring process. “Ban the box” laws prohibiting or restricting if and when an employer can request or consider an applicant's (or a current employee's) criminal history during the hiring and interview process have been enacted in several jurisdictions. Other jurisdictions have enacted laws prohibiting inquiries regarding an applicant's credit history or debt, including consideration of bankruptcy or adverse judgments affecting the applicant's economic condition. 

Littler's Jennifer Mora and Ethan Balsam will discuss the limitations imposed on employers and what employers can do to comply with these myriad new requirements.
