Beginning this fall, it will be an “offence” under Bill 148 to misclassify an employee as an independent contractor. Additionally, the Ministry of Labour will be hiring 175 new Inspectors and has committed to increased enforcement of all minimum employment standards, with a strong focus on misclassification. As a result, employers may face increased audits, penalties, and other consequences if they get it wrong.
This one hour session will review misclassification issues, what to expect from an employment standards audit, and how to minimize liability going forward.
