Alaya B. Meyers focuses on employment law, class action litigation, and litigation under California’s Private Attorney Generals Act (PAGA). He has experience in all facets of the litigation process and represents employers in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies, including the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the Department of Labor. He handles harassment and discrimination claims, including multiplaintiff claims, in matters arising under:

  • Title VII
  • The Americans with Disabilities Act
  • The Age Discrimination in Employment Act
  • The Family and Medical Leave Act
  • The Fair Employment and Housing Act
  • State and federal whistleblowing statutes

Additionally, he has devoted a significant amount of his practice to the litigation and management of wage and hour class actions and PAGA claims, including defending claims of:

  • Missed meal and rest breaks
  • Unpaid overtime
  • Unpaid commissions and expenses
  • Miscalculation of pay
  • Improper wages
  • Unpaid business expenses

Alaya has also developed particular knowledge of California’s Unruh Civil Rights Act litigation, counseling and assisting clients with defending against claims for discrimination premised on gender-based promotions.

Alaya works closely on counseling clients of all sizes, offering advice on a number of human resources issues, such as reductions-in-force and litigation avoidance. He regularly works with clients in the retail, restaurant/casual dining, and trucking industries.
