Littler’s Joycelyn Stevenson Elected President of the Nashville Bar Association

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (January 4, 2016) – Joycelyn Stevenson, a shareholder in the Nashville office of Littler, the world’s largest employment and labor law practice representing management, was named the 2016 president of the Nashville Bar Association (NBA)’s board of directors and will serve a one-year term. Stevenson is the first African-American woman to lead the Nashville Bar Association, which is comprised of more than 2,500 members.

“I am proud to serve the NBA in this capacity and look forward to furthering its mission of education, service and fellowship,” said Stevenson. “As president, my goal is to work with our members to increase membership, enhance program offerings and further elevate the prominence of the organization throughout the region.”

NBA leadership positions are elected by a majority of the current board members, with individual merits and NBA contributions considered in the voting process. An active member since 2001, Stevenson has been involved in a number of leadership capacities within the organization, most recently serving as president elect. In addition to her involvement in the NBA, Stevenson has held positions with other organizations, such as president of the Lawyers’ Association for Women in Nashville and president of the Council on Aging of Greater Nashville.

With her successful practice focusing on employment and business immigration law, including representation of the firm’s corporate clients on workplace issues, Stevenson has consistently been recognized as a leader in the legal community. She is the 2015 winner of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and Young Professionals Nashville Emerging Leaders Award in the Legal Services category. She was selected as one of Mid-South Super Lawyers Rising Stars in 2014 and 2015, and as a Nashville Business Journal Best of the Bar honoree in 2013-2015, having previously been included in its “40 Under 40” listing in 2011. In 2013, Stevenson also received the Nashville Athena Young Professionals Award.

Stevenson earned her J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School and her B.A. from Howard University.
