Mia Acheson
Pronounced: Mee-uh Ah-ch-uh-sun
Mia Acheson focuses her practice on traditional labor, employment law, and workplace safety, assisting in the representation of both private and public employers in a wide range of workplace matters. Her experience includes drafting statements of position for federal and state administrative agencies, preparing court pleadings and motions, and drafting various employment related documents such as release agreements, promissory notes, and demand letters. Mia also regularly assists in evaluating and advising clients on single plaintiff employment claims arising from allegations of discrimination based on race, sex, age, national origin, sexual orientation, and disability, as well as claims involving harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, breach of contract, unfair labor practices, whistleblower retaliation, and other employment related issues.
Before attending law school, Mia spent three years with a Fortune 150 company, where she gained substantial hands-on experience in human resources management and labor relations, including collective bargaining. She draws on this background to provide practical, business focused counsel.
Mia is bilingual with native level Spanish proficiency. During law school, she externed with a St. Louis–based nonprofit immigration law firm, where she assisted with asylum cases and pro se clinics. She also served as an admissions ambassador and as a teaching assistant for the Center for Academic Support & Legal Writing, providing English as a Second Language support to foreign legal scholars. Mia was one of five students selected to participate in The Catholic University of Portugal’s semester abroad program and was awarded the Dean’s Service Award in recognition of her significant pro bono contributions.
Throughout law school, Mia was actively involved in student organizations, serving as secretary of the Labor and Employment Law Society and as a representative for the Latin American Student Association. She also gained practical experience during both of her law school summers as a summer associate in Littler’s Austin office. Prior to attending law school, Mia volunteered with a Memphis based nonprofit, coaching minority youth in workplace and entrepreneurship skills.
