As a member of the Littler CaseSmart – Charges™ team and based in New York, Lauren Schnitzer is responsible for handling charges from investigation to conclusion. She works on client-dedicated service teams, focusing on handling administrative agency charges. She investigates charge allegations, reviews pertinent documents, interviews key witnesses, and provides clients an assessment of the risks associated with the charge. In partnership with the client, she defends the charge by drafting persuasive position statements and responses to the agency’s requests for information.

Prior to joining the Littler CaseSmart team, Lauren served as management-side labor and general counsel. She represented clients in civil litigation in federal and state court, including defense of discrimination, retaliation, civil rights, breach of contract and wrongful termination claims. She also defended employers and municipal clients in administrative matters, including before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), New York State Division of Human Rights, U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights and the New York State Education Department. 

Lauren has represented management in a wide variety of labor and employment matters, including workplace investigations of harassment, discrimination and retaliation complaints, employee discipline, interpreting employment contracts and collective bargaining agreements, reviewing personnel policies and accommodating employees with disabilities. She has provided client training on anti-discrimination, harassment and retaliation, anti-sexual harassment, compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act and other relevant laws and regulations. She has also served as special education counsel for private and public schools. 

Lauren has lectured at programs sponsored by the Nassau, Suffolk and Queens County Bar Associations, the National Business Institute and the New York Association of School Psychologists. She was an assistant chapter editor for the Second Edition of the American Bar Association’s treatise Discipline and Discharge in Arbitration. Lauren also served as a Judicial Intern to the Hon. Kenneth A. Davis while he served as a justice of the Nassau County Supreme Court in New York.
