Joseph M. Carr represents employers in litigation and counsels clients on a variety of employment-related issues. Joe brings a collaborative and detail-oriented approach to his work and strives to secure favorable outcomes for his clients, particularly in the healthcare, hospitality, higher education, and transportation industries. Joe has successfully handled employment-related disputes in federal and state courts with claims arising under:

  • Title VI and VII of the Civil Rights of 1964
  • The Americans with Disabilities Act
  • The Rehabilitation Act of 1973
  • The Age Discrimination in Employment Act
  • The Family and Medical Leave Act
  • The Fair Labor Standards Act
  • Pennsylvania and New Jersey equivalents, including the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act, Philadelphia Fair Practices Ordinance, New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, New Jersey Conscientious Employee Protection Act, and Pennsylvania and New Jersey wage and hour laws

Joe seeks to understand the business model and industry of the employers he represents, and aims to achieve a balanced and workable outcome for his clients.

Prior to joining Littler, Joe was an associate in the higher education and labor and employment practice groups of a large NLJ 500-rated law firm. Before practicing, he clerked for the Hon. Robert E. Brenner, J.S.C. in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Ocean Vicinage, Law Division.

In law school, Joe served as executive editor for the Rutgers Journal of Law & Public Policy. He was a student attorney with Rutgers Law School’s Entrepreneurship Clinic and received the Rutgers Center for Corporate Law and Governance’s Corporate and Business Law Certificate for his dedication to the subject matter. Joe also completed a German Language Certificate at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal.

  • Summary judgment in favor of healthcare institution for disability discrimination claims under the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Rehabilitation Act in federal court
  • Summary judgment in favor of manufacturing company for disability discrimination claims, age discrimination claims, and retaliation claim under the Americans with Disabilities Act, Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act in federal court
  • Summary judgment in favor of utility company for disability discrimination claims under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Pennsylvania Human Relations Act in federal court
  • Dismissal with prejudice in favor of apparel company for race discrimination claims under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act in federal court
  • Judgment as a matter of law in favor of office supply company for unpaid wages claims under the Pennsylvania Wage Payment and Collection Law and common law in federal court
