Jessica M. Van Steenbergen

Jessica M. Van Steenbergen focuses her practice on labor and employment law matters.

In 2026, Jessica second-chaired a Hawaii state court bench trial that resulted in a complete defense victory. The court entered judgment in favor of the client on all claims, including breach of contract, wage and hour violations, violation of the Hawaii Whistleblower Protection Act, and wrongful termination in violation of public policy. The team also obtained an award of attorneys’ fees and costs in favor of the client. 

Jessica has also successfully secured dismissal of claims through both motions to dismiss and motions for summary judgment, prosecuted motions to compel discovery, defended and opposed discovery-related motions, and prepared a wide range of other motions, memoranda, and briefs that have favorably positioned matters for settlement or resolution.

After graduating from law school, Jessica began her legal career practicing insurance defense, representing clients in a broad range of personal injury and medical malpractice claims throughout Hawaii. By the end of 2024, she transitioned her practice to management-side employment and labor law, joining a boutique litigation firm in Honolulu. There, she represented Fortune 500 companies and small businesses alike through all stages of litigation in both state and federal courts, as well as in arbitration. Her practice also included conducting investigations into allegations of harassment, discrimination, and other employment-related misconduct.
