Wine industry employers must navigate through complex federal, state and local regulations in order to avoid expensive legal problems. Are you compliant? Speakers will cover need to know employment law topics and trends including:

  • Navigating California wage and hour regulations:
    Who qualifies as an "employee," payroll compliance, the latest on California meal and rest period laws, and joint employer liability (i.e., how growers can be liable for the labor code violations of their farm labor contractors).
  • Federal and state farm labor contractor licensing laws: 
    New legislation including the imposition of greater penalties for violations and the addition of new agents by the Bureau of Field Enforcement will enable the Labor Commissioner to more effectively enforce these laws making now the right time to learn their ins and outs.
  • The basics of immigration compliance: 
    Practical advice on I-9 completion, document verification, e-Verify, and how to avoid discrimination based on immigration status.
  • Avoiding harassment and discrimination lawsuits: 
    The importance of crafting policies and training your staff to keep your workplace free of harassment and discrimination, as well as how to perform a thorough investigation after receiving a complaint, ultimately achieving a more productive and satisfied workforce and staying clear of the courtroom.
