How to Face the Labor Reform

The Labor Procedure Reform (RPL) represents the most significant change made to Costa Rica’s Labor Code since its publication in 1943. The RPL:

  • Eliminates 15 articles
  • Amends 348 articles
  • Expands the Labor Code from 624 articles to 713
  • Becomes effective on July 25, 2017

Given the RPL’s importance, we have designed this event to analyze the core issues relevant to individual, procedural and collective rights, from a comparative law perspective from the region. We will discuss the best practices from various jurisdictions relative to the right to due process, discrimination, union association, among other topics. The sessions will cover:

  • The RPL’s first days. How is it going?
  • The Correct handling of discrimination claims: Implementing best practices from a comparative law perspective from the region
  • Preventing conflicts: Correct utilization of ADR mechanisms in light of the reform
  • Managing the collective bargaining process, based on experiences from other countries relevant to Costa Rica
  • Important changes to the employment law in the region
  • Generations X, Y, Z and their impact in the workplace

This conference has been designed for executives, directors, and managers overseeing human resources and legal departments, as well as department heads managing staff within the organization.
