Safety First Before an Inspection: How to Engage with OSHA Through the Rulemaking Process, Letters of Interpretation and Cooperative Programs
Many times, an employer’s only encounter with OSHA is through an inspection. But did you know that OSHA has many avenues for proactive engagement that can help head off future enforcement activity and make sure your voice is heard? With new OSHA leadership in place, the agency is using alternative methods of engagement to assist employers in complying with sometimes-confusing OSHA standards. Employer use of these tools can provide proactive assurance that your safety practices are sound or demonstrate where improvements can be made to satisfy OSHA compliance obligations.
Littler Attorneys Peter Vassalo and Felicia Watson present a lively discussion on important topics, including:
- How to engage OSHA throughout the lengthy rulemaking process
- The use of Letters of Interpretation to validate or pressure check a specific safety practice at your worksite
- How to work collaboratively with OSHA through its VPP, Partnership and Alliance Programs on best safety practices
