A Recipe for Compliance: Breaking Bread with Minnesota’s New Meal and Rest Rules

Starting Jan. 1, 2026, in Minnesota, amended meal and rest break requirements go into effect, requiring employers to give employees 15-minute paid rest breaks for every four hours of work and a 30-minute meal break for employees who work six hours or more. 

These new regulations will have implications for Minnesota employers involving policies, changes to timekeeping and payroll processes, training, and seeking waivers from employees.
