Australia – US Cross-Border Issues for Companies Who Are Operating or Looking to Operate in Both Countries

Thursday, September 19

  • 7:00 AM PDT
New York, NY

Australia has increasingly become an attractive market for many companies wanting an Asia-Pacific presence, especially because of factors such as its proximity to Asia. Many Australian companies are also choosing to expand into larger overseas markets such as the US. Moving into a foreign market, however, can prove a difficult task. Australian professionals who specialize in assisting companies with Australian and US operations, will discuss employment law, immigration, taxation, international business development, acquisitions and investing in Australia and the United States.

This presentation will cover cross-border employment law considerations including:

  • General overview of Australian employment law and how it differs from US
  • Due diligence considerations in acquisitions
  • Managing and terminating employees in Australia and the US
  • Engaging international contractors
  • Immigration considerations and secondment arrangements
  • Benefits considerations in Australia and US

We will also cover general considerations for developing and expanding into a new market, international business development, strategic partnership, acquisitions and negotiating with financiers, and tax issues.

Speakers

  • Naomi Sheridan, Special Counsel, Littler Mendelson
  • Trent Blacket, Managing Director, ROAR Asia Pacific
  • Zsofi Paterson, Director of Strategy, ROAR Asia Pacific
  • Peter Harper, Managing Director, CST Tax

This program is also being held in Los Angeles on September 17.
