In this series, the speakers will provide quarterly updates on significant labor and employment developments across the region, essential for any company with operations in APAC. Each presentation is offered twice, to accommodate all global time zones. The series is presented by our Asia Pacific Team, licensed/qualified to practice in Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand and the United States, and our international attorneys who manage multicountry projects and issues throughout the region. We will announce details of each topic to ensure that each quarterly program provides the most timely developments and updates.
The first webinar in the series will present our 2021 Outlook for the Asia Pacific region, and the impacts of 2020’s extraordinary events. Participants can expect to learn about the key predictions for labor and employment in 2021 and anticipated pitfalls and risks for employers across the region, particularly in Australia, China, Japan, Singapore, and beyond. Such issues include: Considerations for employers related to the pandemic; current and recent legislation impacting employers; and important compliance risks in labor and employment for the coming year. Our APAC team will discuss specific jurisdictional developments in:
China: The impact of the new Civil Code in the workplace with regard to sexual harassment and privacy issues at the workplace, such as monitoring employees’ emails, work phones, and other devices.
Australia: A new bill before Parliament, which will implement a number of important changes to Australia’s employment laws.
Japan: A recently implemented law raising the retirement age to 70 and a new law regulating freelancers.
