Previously, he spent over six years active duty as a judge advocate in the U.S. Marine Corps. During his time in the Marine Corps, he served as defense counsel where he represented Marines and sailors accused of crimes at general (felony) courts-martial and at employment termination hearings. In 2012, he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as the legal advisor to an infantry battalion commander in Helmand Province. Since leaving active duty in 2016, Dave continues to serve in a variety of assignments and is currently the reserve deputy staff judge advocate to the 3rd Marine Air Wing Commanding General out of Miramar, San Diego.
