Once A Year: Paying Part-Time Firefighters and EMTs in Wisconsin

Generally, Wisconsin employers are required to pay employee wages no later than 31 days after those wages are earned. Within the past year, the Wisconsin legislature created a fifth exception to this general rule. Wis. Stat. Section 109.03(1)(e). Under this most recent exception, part-time firefighters and part-time emergency medical services technicians who are employed by a city, county, town, village or privately incorporated volunteer fire company may be paid at any regular interval agreed upon by employee and employer. However, wages must be paid at least once per year.
