People claim there's a revolution underway, that social media is going to change how organizations communicate with key stakeholders. Although the focus so far has been primarily on external communications, people are starting to realize the potential intra-organizational impact of social media as well. The rise of digital communication in general, and social media in particular, has important implications for both HR as an organizational function and HR professionals.

In this Research Series session you will learn what the "state of the field" is based on recent research regarding social media adoption at both the organizational and individual levels. In addition, a panel of experts will provide insight and guidance on the main opportunities and challenges HR professionals should be prepared to deal with as they work with their organizational leaders to develop and implement their social media strategies, including:

  • Determining the organization's communication strategy for both external and internal communication and employee engagement
  • Creating communications policies and procedures that incorporate social media applications
  • Developing the organization's use of social media with respect to knowledge management
  • Using social media applications for traditional HR functions such as benefits administration
  • Staffing for social media positions
