Imagine... a universe where all of your employees show up for work every day (and on time). They need no special accommodations; they work their expected schedules and don’t leave early; they don’t ask to work from home or to have their duties reassigned. It sounds wonderful, but in reality employees need time off from work both for rest and relaxation, and for personal and medical reasons. Recognizing this, the federal government passed the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and employer obligations under these laws have expanded over time. In this program, Littler lawyers who devote a significant portion of their practice to counseling and litigation involving leaves and accommodations will discuss successful and unsuccessful strategies employers have implemented to try to manage employee issues involving leaves of absence and accommodations, as well as current trends employers need to know to protect themselves – and their employees.
