Michael Brewer gives insight into what employers can do to prepare for avian flu. He mentions that there are three areas of concern for employers: compensation, leave, benefits and labor relations issues; Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) concerns; and medical privacy rights. "From an employer's standpoint, in the event of a bird flu pandemic, having an up-to-date communicable illness policy is critical," Brewer states.
