Overview

A. John Harper II has extensive experience advising and representing employers in employment law and labor matters. His experience includes:

  • Traditional labor relations such as union-organizing efforts, collective-bargaining negotiations, union-contract administration, strikes, and other union-related matters
  • Wage and hour matters including advice and litigation of Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) collective actions
  • Litigation under various federal and state laws involving employee-employer issues, such as claims on the basis of age, race, or sex discrimination; Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) violations, wrongful or retaliatory discharge; and other state law tort claims such as defamation, invasion of privacy, and tortious interference with contract
  • Compliance with state and federal laws, including issues arising in mergers and acquisitions, plant closings, and reductions-in-force

John has authored numerous papers and has spoken at various professional and trade conferences, including the Midwinter Meetings of the Developing Labor Law Committee and National Institutes of the American Bar Association (ABA) and the Southwest Legal Foundation Institutes. He has also conducted client training in U.S. employment and labor laws and anti-harassment policies.

Prior to joining Littler, John served as senior counsel at an international law firm and was a partner and head of the Labor and Employment Law Department at another international law firm. In law school, John was the managing editor of the Journal of Air Law & Commerce.
