David J. Master advises employers on the full spectrum of employment and labour law issues, including wrongful dismissal, employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, workers’ compensation, arbitrations and labour grievances.
David has a demonstrated track record of success as an advocate for his clients, having successfully appeared before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Ontario Human Rights Tribunal and the Ontario Small Claims Court and having assisted on successful matters before the Ontario Labour Relations Board. He is also an effective negotiator and has orchestrated a variety of settlements, specifically tailored to the client’s circumstances.
Prior to joining Littler, David gained unique and diverse experience representing both employers and employees in unionized and non-unionized workplaces. Most recently, he was an associate at a boutique employment law firm, where he advised both employers and employees on the full spectrum of the employment relationship.
During articling, David focused exclusively on the employer, where he assisted in the defence of wrongful terminations and unjust dismissal claims and drafted a variety of agreements, policies and handbooks.
While in law school, David spent a summer as a legal intern at the United Nations Headquarters advising employees of their contractual rights during and at the termination of their employment, and completed a semester abroad in Switzerland at the University of Luzern. He also completed a semester abroad in Sweden at Uppsala University as an undergraduate student.
David is extremely passionate about volunteering. He sits on the Board of Directors for Ringette Canada and acts as an Adjudicator, settling disputes from various local, provincial and national sport organizations.
