On March 28, 2022, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced its FY 2021 report and its planned budget increase for the coming year. EEOC Chair Charlotte Burrows also announced the agency's planned focus on four broad areas: 1) racial justice and combatting systemic discrimination; 2) pay equity; 3) EEO issues tied to the COVID-19 pandemic; and 4) further strengthening the agency.

The EEOC also will address three initiatives launched in FY 2021: 1) a Hiring Initiative to Reimagine Equity (HIRE), "which aims to expand employment opportunities as the nation recovers from the pandemic"; 2) a joint anti-retaliation initiative with the U.S. DOL and NLRB; and 3) an initiative to address AI and "algorithmic decision-making tools" to ensure that they comply with federal EEO law.

Employers also should brace for a more aggressive agency during 2022, when it is anticipated that the Commission will switch to a Democratic majority.

This webinar will address the above EEOC priorities and include highlights from Littler's Annual Report on EEOC Developments. Topics will include:

The final segment will address the EEOC's HIRE initiative, which will focus on strategies to remove unnecessary barriers to hiring, and to promote effective, job-related hiring and recruitment practices to cultivate a diverse pool of qualified workers.
