Littler Adds Shareholder Lawrence Levien in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON (February 3, 2020) – Littler, the world’s largest employment and labor law practice representing management, has added Lawrence D. Levien in its Washington, D.C., office. Levien joins from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, where he was a partner in the labor and employment practice.

“Larry brings decades of experience counseling employers on complex labor strategy and he has developed an impressive reputation nationwide,” said Joshua B. Waxman, Littler’s office managing shareholder in Washington, D.C. “I had the immense privilege of working directly with Larry when I first began practicing in D.C. and know firsthand the strengths and abilities that he brings with him to Littler. Larry has a deep understanding of the issues impacting employers in a variety of industries, including energy, entertainment, hospitality and telecom. Furthermore, his extensive background and knowledge of traditional labor matters will supplement our robust capabilities representing clients involved with powerful labor organizations.  Moreover, Larry’s expertise in addressing the challenges of underfunded multiemployer pension plans and developing creative solutions for employers who are faced with huge costs and liabilities in this area will greatly enhance Littler’s representation of management in this area.”

Levien focuses his practice on the negotiation and administration of collective bargaining agreements and of complex multiparty transactions. He advises clients on corporate acquisitions, bankruptcies and divestitures, with an emphasis on companies facing economic difficulties or industrywide dislocations. He also has a deep understanding of issues related to underfunded multiemployer-defined benefit plans, and potential withdrawal liability facing companies in those circumstances.

“I’m excited to join Littler, a firm that has had a singular focus on labor and employment – and one that continues to grow its platform in the United States and around the world,” Levien said. “I was drawn to Littler’s strong presence everywhere that I practice across the country, combined with its impressive resources to help companies navigate the ever-evolving legislative and regulatory landscape. I look forward to leveraging Littler’s resources and working alongside its skilled pool of labor attorneys to continue to service my clients in all areas of labor law and strategy. I’m also excited to partner with other Littler attorneys to develop solutions for clients facing challenges with underfunded multiemployer pension plans.”

Levien previously served in the Appellate Court and Litigation Section of the National Labor Relations Board. He also has written professionally as a reporter and correspondent before and during his legal career.

Levien received his J.D. from Harvard Law School and his B.A., cum laude, from Williams College.
