Philip M. Berkowitz Appointed Vice Chair of the International Bar Association’s Discrimination and Equality Law Committee

NEW YORK (February 1, 2016) – Philip Berkowitz, a shareholder in Littler’s New York office and U.S. co-chair of the firm’s International Employment Law Practice Group, has been named vice chair of the Discrimination and Equality Law Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA). A leading authority in labor and employment law globally, Berkowitz will serve as the committee’s vice chair through Dec. 31, 2017.

In this role, Berkowitz supports and recommends initiatives that promote awareness of discrimination and equal opportunity issues. Laying the framework for law practice dedicated to human resources professionals, the committee also collaborates with the IBA’s Employment and Industrial Relations Law and Immigration and Nationality committees, as well as its Global Employment Institute.

The IBA’s Discrimination and Equality Law Committee is formed through IBA member nominations. Berkowitz’s fellow committee officers include industry-leading lawyers from England, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland and the United States.

Berkowitz also serves as vice chair of the American Bar Association’s international employment law committee and previously chaired the New York State Bar Association's International Law Practice Section. A frequent speaker on various labor and employment law topics, he is the founding chair of the Practising Law Institute’s annual international employment law conference. Berkowitz is often featured in the media and counsels multinational companies on all regulatory facets of employment law. He has been recognized by several esteemed legal organizations, including Chambers USA, Best Lawyers in America and Who's Who Legal.

Berkowitz received his J.D. from Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College, and his B.A. from the State University of New York at New Paltz.
