Business Continuity During the H1N1 Outbreak: Update and Best Practices

Littler Mendelson's Workplace Safety Practice Group and H1N1 Task Force invites you to join us for a one-hour webinar on Tuesday, November 10th, to discuss the current status of the H1N1 influenza outbreak and the implications for your business. Employers continue to grapple with the unique workforce management challenges presented by pandemic flu, and Littler will provide you with valuable insight into measures employers should take to maintain a safe work environment, manage absenteeism and leave issues (including compliance with the EEOC's latest technical guidance on ADA-compliant responses to the pandemic), balance privacy interests and safety needs, and otherwise plan for business continuity.

Other topics covered at this seminar will include:

  • Current understanding of the symptoms and transmission
    of H1N1
  • Update on prevention and treatment, including the status of the H1N1 vaccine, efficacy of antivirals, and duration of
    the illness
  • Practical tips for handling potentially contagious employees, absences caused by the flu, possible reasonable accommodation of employees with special health issues, and return to work issues
  • How to respond when an employee self-discloses his/
    her infection
  • What information employers can require employees to provide and proper handling of that information
  • Employer options in the event of school closures, mass transit shut downs, and absenteeism due to fear of contagion
  • Risks associated with requiring vaccinations, taking employees' temperatures and other more aggressive steps
  • Managing pandemic issues in a unionized workforce

Littler also has on staff a non-lawyer OSHA expert with an extensive background both as a private consultant and an industrial hygienist for Cal-OSHA, and is available to provide excellent consultative services in any occupational safety or health related matter that does not require legal advice.
