While most recently with Dickstein Shapiro in Washington, D.C., McCutchen previously served as Administrator of the Wage and Hour Division of the U.S. Department of Labor, where she was responsible for administering and enforcing some of the United States' most comprehensive labor laws. Her responsibilities included managing an annual budget of $160 million and 1,400 employees in more than 250 offices across the country.

She is a leading authority on wage and hour issues, and focuses her practice on counseling clients on employment matters, particularly those related to the minimum wage, overtime, and child labor provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Her areas of practice also include Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), and the affirmative action and prevailing wage requirements for government contractors. Additionally, she has experience managing employment-related litigation pending before federal and state courts, the EEOC, and state agencies.

McCutchen earned her B.A. summa cum laude from Western Illinois University and her J.D. cum laude from Northwestern University School of Law, where she served as editor of the law review. Following law school she clerked for Judge Daniel A. Manion on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. She is listed in the 2006 edition of Chambers USA as a leading employment attorney in the District of Columbia, and is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Illinois.
