Concerns about pay inequality are at the top of the minds of employers and the focus of advocacy groups, state legislatures, and plaintiffs’ lawyers. Pay equity laws are expanding, and protections in New Jersey, New York, California, Massachusetts and other locations significantly exceed federal regulations. Class action lawsuits focused on fair pay are increasing, and negative publicity can hurt employee recruiting, retention and customer relationships. In New Jersey and New York, with liquidated damages of 300% and a six-year statute of limitations, pay equity suits just may be too hard for plaintiffs’ lawyers to resist.

This will be a roundtable discussion to share updates on the current status of these ever expanding pay equity laws and best practices for compliance.
