Littler's Jeanine Conley Named Chair of the New York Urban League Board

PHILADELPHIA/NEW YORK (April 25, 2017) – S. Jeanine Conley, a shareholder in the Philadelphia and New York offices of Littler (www.littler.com), the world’s largest employment and labor law practice representing management, has been appointed chair of the New York Urban League (NYUL) board of directors.

The NYUL (www.nyul.org) is a vital resource for African-Americans and other underserved groups in New York. The organization transforms the lives of over 8,000 families each year by providing quality higher-education options, economic opportunity and community engagement.

“The NYUL is a valued organization in the New York community, and I am honored to serve as chair of its board,” said Conley. “I look forward to furthering NYUL’s mission of expanding opportunities for African- Americans and other underserved communities through education, economic independence and equal rights.”

“I am pleased to have Jeanine succeed me as board chair of the New York Urban League,” said William D. Holiber, immediate past chair of NYUL. “Her legal acumen, commitment to the community and previous leadership positions with Urban Assembly School for Criminal Justice, Association of Black Women Attorneys and the Council of Urban Professionals make her ideal to lead this civil rights organization to its centennial and beyond.”

In her practice at Littler, Conley counsels clients on employment-related disputes and workplace investigations. She has defended employers from a variety of industries before several government agencies and has experience with a wide variety of employment matters, including retaliation and whistleblower litigation, wrongful termination cases, discrimination and harassment claims, and wage and hour matters. She also regularly conducts training on all facets of employment law and assists clients with revising employee handbooks, policies and procedures and drafts employment agreements and restrictive covenants.

Conley has been recognized by numerous organizations for her accomplishments. Most recently, the Metropolitan Black Bar Association recognized Conley as Private Practitioner of the Year. Among other recognitions, Conley has been named a New York Super Lawyer for three years and was honored for her contributions to furthering the advancement of minority lawyers by Chambers “Women in Law” initiative in 2015. She received her J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center and her B.S. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

In her capacity as chair of the NYUL board, Conley will be attending the organization’s 52nd Annual Frederick Douglass Dinner Awards on May 16 at Pier Sixty on the Hudson River in Manhattan, one of the league’s most important fundraisers. Support of the event ensures continued growth of high-impact programs in STEM education, college readiness, employment counseling and technology classes while offering flexibility to react quickly to emerging issues.
