(February 13, 2017) – Littler, the world’s largest employment and labor law practice representing management, has been awarded the Starbucks Law and Corporate Affairs’ Excellence in Diversity & Inclusion award. This is the second time the firm has received the award, which recognizes Littler’s efforts in strengthening diversity and inclusion – both within the firm and throughout the legal industry.
“It is an honor to work alongside and be recognized by Starbucks, a company that shares our mission in fostering a culture of diversity, inclusion and belonging,” said Tom Bender and Jeremy Roth, co-managing directors of Littler, in a joint statement. “Like Starbucks, we believe in the power of diversity and inclusion, and that having a diverse team of lawyers and professional staff enhances innovative thinking and client service, and is reflective of the global communities we serve.”
The Excellence in Diversity & Inclusion award recognizes firms whose focus on diversity and inclusion has been both meaningful and productive. Submissions were reviewed carefully by the Starbucks Diversity and Inclusion Committee, which was comprised of lawyers and other legal professionals.
“At Starbucks, our mission is to inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup, and one neighborhood at a time,” said Lucy Helm, Starbucks executive vice president, general counsel and secretary. “An integral part of that mission includes valuing diversity not only in gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, religion, and age, but also in cultural backgrounds, life experiences, thoughts, and ideas. We believe law firms, like Littler, that also value diversity and inclusion lead to stronger representation not just for Starbucks, but for our business partners and customers as well.”
Littler demonstrated excellence in key areas, which have increased an already inclusive workplace for all employees, including: women, minorities and those who identify as LGBTQ. The firm’s commitment at the highest levels of leadership has enabled successful programming in all areas of diversity and inclusion from pipeline development to mentorship to recruitment and retention efforts.
Over the past year, Littler has earned several notable awards for its advanced diversity initiatives and inclusive culture. Recently, the firm received a perfect rating of 100 in the 2017 Corporate Equality Index and was named a Diversity and Inclusion Partner by Edward Jones.
