Tanja L. Thompson Appointed to the American Bar Association's Section of Labor and Employment Law Council

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (September 29, 2016) – Tanja L. Thompson, Office Managing Shareholder of the Memphis office of Littler, the world’s largest employment and labor law practice representing management, has been elected to the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Labor and Employment Law Council. Of the almost 20,000 members of the Section, Thompson was one of a dozen management-side labor and employment lawyers named as a Council Member. She also currently serves as Employer Vice-Chair of the ABA Labor and Employment Law Section’s Budget and Finance Committee.

In her new role, Thompson will help lead the mission of the Labor and Employment Law Section, which is to study the law of labor relations as a science, and to promote its fair and just administration; to study and report upon proposed and necessary legislation; to encourage members of the Association representing both management and labor throughout the nation to meet and confer, through the section, upon their various problems, and to endeavor to define rules of conduct based upon the rights and responsibilities of labor and industry, and through such co-operation, to promote justice, human welfare and industrial peace and recognition of the supremacy of law.

Thompson is co-chair of Littler’s Traditional Labor Practice Group and focuses her practice on representing national companies, including the Fortune 500, and local employers across various industries in labor management relations. She has extensive experience in counseling clients on remaining union-free and advising those with union-represented workplaces, and litigating before the National Labor Relations Board. Her successes have garnered several accolades, including the Martindale-Hubbell AV® Peer Review Rating, Chambers and Partners' “America’s Leading Lawyers for Business” and the Memphis Business Journal’s “Best of the Bar.”

Thompson earned her J.D. from the University of Memphis School of Law and her B.A. from Rhodes College.
