HHS to Hold New Webinar on Health Reform, Praises Voluntary Efforts by Insurers to Extend Coverage to Young Adults in Advance of September Start Date

hand%20on%20mouse.jpgOn Thursday at 1:00 PM EST, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will hold the fourth session in its webinar series on how health care reform will impact different sectors of society. On hand for Thursday’s session will be AARP President Jennie Chin Hansen and other health experts from HHS to discuss how the new health law will affect seniors. In other health care news, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has announced that the department will continue to work with the growing number of insurance companies that are voluntarily providing coverage to graduating college seniors and young adults under the age of 26 who have aged out of their parents’ health plan in advance of the new requirement under the Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act. The new requirement becomes effective for plan years beginning on or after September 23, 2010. In the announcement, Sebelius stated: “[i]nsuring younger Americans is a top priority for the Administration and we will continue working to expand the opportunity for children and young adults to have access to quality, affordable, care.”
