ERISA Advisory Council to Hold Meeting to Discuss Retirement Plan Issues

The Department of Labor’s Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) has announced that the Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans (“ERISA Advisory Council”) will hold an open meeting via teleconference on September 25, 2012. According to the EBSA’s Federal Register notice, (pdf) topics to be discussed at the upcoming meeting include managing disability risks in an environment of individual responsibility; current challenges and best practices concerning beneficiary designations in retirement and life insurance plans; and examining income replacement during retirement years in a defined contribution plan system.

Although the public may not participate via telephone, interested individuals may attend the meeting – which is slated to run from 10:00 a.m. until approximately 4:00 pm – in C5521 Room 4, U.S. Department of Labor, 200 Constitution Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20210. In addition, members of the public may submit written statements to the ERISA Advisory Council on or before Sept. 18, 2012. Details on how to submit such statements to the Council and request permission to address the Council in person during the meeting are included in the Federal Register notice.
