ERISA Litigator Deidre A. Grossman Joins Littler Mendelson's New York City Office

NEW YORK, NY (September 20, 2010) – Littler Mendelson, P.C. (Littler), the nation's largest employment and labor law firm representing management, announced today that Deidre A. Grossman, a seasoned ERISA litigator, has joined the firm. Grossman, a former special counsel at Proskauer Rose LLP, will be a shareholder in Littler's New York City office.

Grossman has been litigating complex ERISA and employee benefits disputes for 17 years, representing plan sponsors, fiduciaries, service providers, and single and multi-employer plans. While focused on employee benefits matters, Grossman's litigation experience includes the successful defense of a wide variety of claims. She has handled cases ranging from class action lawsuits alleging violation of ERISA's fiduciary duty and prohibited transaction provisions to individual claims for benefits, as well as suits raising interference and retaliation issues. She also counsels clients on how to administer their employee benefit plans with a view to avoiding litigation under ERISA.

"Deidre is a terrific addition to our firm, a lawyer with enormous talent and varied experience,'' said Marko Mrkonich, Littler's president and managing director. "Her combination of skills and ERISA litigation expertise are invaluable assets," Mrkonich added, "and will help the firm to continue to provide its clients with the best in labor and employment services."

Craig Benson, office managing shareholder of the firm's New York City office, echoed Mrkonich's statements. "We are thrilled to welcome Deidre to the Littler team," he said. "Her experience and knowledge will greatly enhance our practice during a time of tremendous growth."

Grossman is a member of the Employee Benefits Committee of the American Bar Association's Section of Labor & Employment Law, and a Rewrite Editor for its publication, Employee Benefits Law. She is a frequent speaker and writer about developments in ERISA litigation. Grossman also has considerable international experience, having qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales and practiced UK pension law in London for four years.

"I am excited to be joining the Littler team," said Grossman. "Littler's expansive geographical presence provides an ideal platform for a national ERISA litigation practice," she said. "With its experienced lawyers and 49 offices across the country, the firm is uniquely placed to deliver solutions to clients' ERISA problems, nationwide, with maximum efficiency."

Grossman received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School cum laude and B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. She is admitted to practice in the New York state bar.
