Littler

Kaye DeWalt has extensive experience handling employment  litigation, mediations, internal investigations, and charges of discrimination. She also provides legal assistance with responding to investigations conducted by the U. S. Office for Civil Rights, the U. S. Department of Labor, the U. S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Texas Workforce Commission and the Texas Education Agency. She appears in state and federal courts. 

In addition, Kaye provides preventive legal training for management on various topics including:

  • Employment laws including Title VII, harassment and retaliation
  • Conducting lawful employment investigations
  • Legal hiring and termination decisions
  • Performance management and documentation
  • Ethics and compliance
  • The Americans with Disabilities Act
  • The Family and Medical Leave Act
  • Wage and hour laws

Additionally, she counsels and advises education clients in areas involving employee misconduct, student discipline and student rights, open records, employee grievances, termination appeals, governance, contracts and special education.

Kaye formerly served as general counsel for the Houston Independent School District, the seventh largest school district in the nation where she was responsible for advising the Board of Education, the Superintendent of Schools and designated staff. In addition to her experience in private practice, she was a former assistant district attorney for Harris County, a trial attorney in the Houston District Office of the EEOC, and assistant university counsel in the Howard University Office of the General Counsel in Washington, D.C.

Kaye is a frequent speaker for numerous educational organizations and regularly appears at educational and legal conferences.
