Frederick L. Schwartz advises and represents employers in employment-related litigation, mediation, and arbitration in state and federal courts.  He also handles proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board, including representation elections, unfair labor practice charges, and claims involving the National Labor Relations Act.

Fred has significant experience negotiating collective bargaining agreements for employers seeking to address economic challenges. He recently negotiated a major seven-year agreement that calls for no wage increases, increased employee contributions for benefits, and the implementation of a second-tier wage and benefit system for new hires.

Additionally, Fred has conducted management training sessions and given numerous presentations to employer associations. Along with union avoidance training, his focus has been on the preventive steps that employers may take to avoid litigation with prospective, current, or former employees. He also offers compliance counseling.

Fred frequently works with the following types of clients:

  • Manufacturers
  • Wholesalers
  • Retailers
  • Healthcare providers
  • Service providers
  • Construction companies
  • Transportation companies

Fred is a founding member of Littler Mendelson's Chicago office and served as its office managing shareholder from 2006 to 2010.
