Littler

Carie A. Torrence represents employers, particularly in the healthcare industry, in:

  • Harassment, discrimination and wrongful discharge litigation
  • Labor arbitrations
  • Collective bargaining negotiations

She appears in Massachusetts federal and state courts and before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, and the National Labor Relations Board and handles claims arising under:

  • Title VII
  • The Americans with Disabilities Act
  • The National Labor Relations Act

Carie also advises employers on a broad range of labor and employment law matters, including leave issues, employee discipline and discharge and litigation avoidance. She also provides compliance counseling.

Additionally, Carie has served as a panelist and instructor at numerous legal conferences and seminars and is the author of publications covering employment law developments in Massachusetts and the rest of the country. She also is a regular contributor to the firm's Healthcare Employment Counsel blog.

Previously, Carie worked as a city attorney for the city of North Las Vegas, Nevada where she acted as the chief legal officer responsible for all legal matters. During her seven-year tenure, she counseled elected officials and city leaders on a variety of labor and employment law matters and represented the city in employment-related litigation, including successfully defending five judgments appealed to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and arguing before the Nevada Supreme Court. Carie also oversaw labor relations issues, such as labor negotiations, arbitrations and unfair labor practice charges.
