Every week, wage and hour class actions are filed against employers under the FLSA and under state law. Given the favorable burdens of proof and the availability of penalties and attorneys’ fees, the financial incentives to plaintiffs’ counsel to file these cases are huge. The defense costs alone may be crippling to employers and enormous multi-million dollar settlements can devastate even the largest organizations. Many employers are simultaneously defending multiple cases, while others have been the victims of serial class actions. In this session, you will learn: the latest news on what new types of claims are being made; proven strategies to defeat class certification; proven strategies to limit the size of claims; and proven strategies to limit the size of settlements.

The Minority Counsel Program promotes diversity in the legal profession through education and by building relationships between corporations and lawyers who are racially and ethnically diverse. The program meets twice a year bringing together in-house lawyers and potential outside counsel for an array of CLE programming, professional workshops, roundtable discussions and networking events as well as elite programs.
