In the past, mismatch notices were common and created response from unions, immigrant rights groups and even state enforcement agencies.

Before recently, SSN mismatch issues had been largely dormant. The Social Security Administration is beginning to provide more mismatch notices and the IRS, as well as individuals whose identities may have been stolen, are increasingly questioning employers and seeking corrections to IRS W-2 reporting. In this webinar we will explore:

  • The current trends and what they means for US employers
  • How to properly manage this new information that can potentially create new claims for immigration-related unfair employment practices
  • Identify and correct compliance practices that can potentially expose employers to both state and federal agencies regarding the use of false identities
  • How to properly respond to claims by non-employees who claim to have had their identity stolen - and the employer's obligation to correct any tax reporting
  • How to handle SSN – based wage attachments involving employees who have admitted to using false SSN
  • E-verify and the use of other verification processes
  • Privacy considerations
