Managing Leaves of Absence
Managing employees with medical conditions is a complex and often frustrating process for employers. The legal maze created by the laws governing this area will become even more challenging for employers to navigate in January 2009 when amendments to the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) and to the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) regulations go into effect. These amendments are significant and will have a dramatic impact on how employers handle employee leaves of absence. Employers who are not prepared for these important changes, and who have not amended their policies and procedures to account for the new rules, will be exposed to greater legal risks.
Please join us on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 for a lively and informative update on how these developments involving the ADA and the FMLA will affect employers. This program is a follow-up to the the Breakfast Briefing conducted on June 4, 2008, at which the proposed amendments to the ADA and the FMLA were discussed. During this updated session, we will cover:
- Highlights of the amendments to the ADA
- Highlights of the amendments to the FMLA's regulations
- The complex interplay between the FMLA and the ADA
- The FMLA’s new family military leave requirements
