Regional Litigation Support Specialist

Regional Litigation Support Specialists report to the Senior Litigation Support Manager (Regional Services) and act as technical consultants and case managers for both internal and external Littler clients in the Specialist’s region where clients are using, or should be using, litigation support tools for the collection, management, production and presentation of evidentiary materials.

Job Duties

E-Discovery Consulting

  • Work under the supervision of the Senior Litigation Support Manager (Regional Services) to develop and maintain a working knowledge of the changing laws pertaining to electronic discovery.
  • Act as primary liaison between Littler’s internal and external clients and the Litigation Support National Data Center to insure that eDiscovery processes follow the firm’s Best Practices for the Management of Electronic Evidence as it pertains to electronic evidence for Firm clients, especially with regard to:
    • Records management
    • Identification
    • Preservation/collection
    • Processing/review/analysis
    • Production
    • Presentation

Client Technical Consulting (ESI Collection)

 

Work closely with eDiscovery Counsel and Senior Litigation Support Managers to develop a knowledge in and role as an eDiscovery consultant for firm clients, including but not limited to interviewing and advising clients in the identification and collection of electronic evidence from client systems by understanding the following:

  • Client network architecture, including corporate e-mail systems
  • Computer forensic methodologies and best practices
  • Backup systems and file restoration
  • Security issues that may impede the collection process

Litigation Support Project Management

  • Support attorneys and paralegals in complete and efficient use of the firm’s primary review platform, kCura Relativity
  • Help educate attorneys and paralegals in their region about the National Data Center’s organization and the firm’s primary review platform (Relativity)
  • Serve as the conduit for accepting evidentiary media/data received from our clients and insuring its delivery to the National Data Center following defensible chain of custody protocols set forth in the Best Practices for the Management of Electronic Evidence
  • Consult and/or advise attorneys and paralegals on best practices and methodologies for the review of evidence, including customization of the review platform to increase ease of use of platform functions and interface
  • Work with Litigation Support Training Specialists to insure attorneys and paralegals in their region understand the review technologies and how they should optimally be used in all review phases of a case
  • Act as primary liaison with the National Data Center to coordinate data uploads, organization of review teams, education and preparation of case teams for the start-up and completion of a review to meet production deadlines, and by providing their attorneys and paralegals with project status reports

Trial-Related Tasks

  • Provide every level of pre-trial and trial consulting, including surveying the trial team to determine what technical assistance and equipment they may need in advance of trial
  • Train or ensure attorneys and paralegals are trained in the most up-to-date and appropriate trial technology
  • Handle distribution of the firm’s “Trial in a Box” equipment
  • Work with case teams to ensure sound wiring of courtrooms

Additional Tasks

  • Support LiveNote real-time deposition transcription technology and national transcript repositories;
  • Support all Litigation Support auxiliary applications, such as: CaseMap, TimeMap, and Timeline Express;
  • Serve as regional liaison overseeing outside vendors/experts for:
    • Large processing jobs that exceed the firm’s internal capabilities
    • Forensic projects
    • Contract review projects
  • Other tasks as assigned

Requirements

Applicants should have a four-year college degree in relevant field of study or system-related technical certification required. Possessing a Paralegal Certificate would be a plus. Three to five years of experience in a litigation support position and/or technical-paralegal position.  Experience with courtroom presentation tools required. Experience in or familiarity with the litigation process. Strong familiarity with Litigation Support applications such as Relativity, TrialDirector, CaseMap and TimeMap, as well as with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access, their design, importing/exporting data, providing technical support to end-users. Specialists must:

  • Have strong interpersonal communication skills and work effectively with others in high-pressure situations that have compressed deadlines
  • Be able to exercise independent judgment within parameters determined by Senior Litigation Support Managers and the attorneys managing their cases
  • Be able to coordinate resources to meet competing demands
  • Act and work independently, handle interruptions, and manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Understand and follow specific and detailed instructions and protocols
  • Present themselves in a professional manner with clients, attorneys, paralegals and other firm personnel
  • Be prompt with good attendance and operate with minimal supervision
