Biography

John began his legal career as a trial attorney with the National Labor Relations Board. His practice has subsequently evolved to cover all areas of labor and employment law with a specific emphasis on international employment issues, class and collective actions, restrictive covenants and trade secrets and wage-hour issues.

John represents clients in all aspects of litigation, including hearings and trials, before state and federal courts, and before state and federal administrative agencies. He also represents clients in all aspects of labor-management relations, including collective bargaining and arbitrations.

In addition, John advises a wide range of multi-national companies on cross-border legal issues. He advises US-based companies on compliance with global legal issues and international companies on compliance with US law.

John represents clients with regard to noncompete and trade secret issues and in the employment law aspects of intellectual property.

John has been a contributing editor to several treatises, including the Developing Labor Law (BNA) and International Employment & Labor Law (Lexis/Nexis). He has authored or co-authored articles on cross-border issues, Canadian employment law, employment practice audits, NLRA preemption, retaliation, arbitration, privacy and digital workplace issues. John blogs on cross-border legal issues and digital workplace issues.

Lectures & Presentations

John has lectured on employment and labor law topics at various universities and law schools, including the University of California, Berkeley, Santa Clara University, Golden Gate Law School, Loyola Law School and the University of Judaism. John also taught legal writing at the University of Wisconsin. He regularly speaks at conferences and seminars in the United States and Canada, and explains employment law issues on local television.
