Biography

Kenneth C. (Casey) Kurtz represents management clients in a wide range of labor and employment matters arising under both federal and state law. Mr. Kurtz has represented employers in litigation involving claims of wrongful discharge, discrimination, failure to provide reasonable accommodations, harassment, defamation and unfair competition, among others. His traditional labor law experience includes representing companies in arbitrations, collective bargaining negotiations, union organizational campaigns and in various proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board.

Mr. Kurtz also counsels clients regarding personnel matters, litigation avoidance and compliance with various federal and state laws, including Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.

Publications

Mr. Kurtz is currently the lead author of the Harassment chapter of The National Employer, for which he has been a contributing author for several years.  He also is a contributing author to the Labor Relations and Unionization guidelines of the Open Compliance and Ethics Group (OCEG).  He is on the Editorial Board for Littler’s Wage and Hour Blog (www.wageandhourcounsel.com).

Lectures & Presentations

Mr. Kurtz is a frequent speaker on various labor and employment law topics before human resources professionals and other business groups, and at Littler’s Pennsylvania Employer and Breakfast Briefings. He also conducts in-house training sessions to help employers avoid employment-related liability.

Mr. Kurtz is a member of the Labor and Employment Law Sections of the American, Pennsylvania and Allegheny County Bar Associations.
Mr. Kurtz is an executive committee member of the Board of Directors at the Heartwood Institute, a non-profit organization offering literature-based ethics education resources to schools and families.
