Diversity Council
While we are the nation’s largest employment and labor law firm, our strength lies not just in our size, but in our diversity and depth of experience that comes with it. We are proud to have assembled a staff of lawyers with diverse and accomplished backgrounds, enhancing our ability to represent our clients successfully.
Littler’s commitment to diversity is exemplified by the efforts of our Diversity Council. Established in 2003, the Diversity Council works to codify and enhance the inclusive culture at Littler. Responsible for the strategic direction and the implementation of the Firm’s diversity initiatives, the Council is overseen by the Board of Directors, including the Managing Director and senior officers of the firm. Executive Committee Members work closely with each of the Office Managing Shareholders to clearly set diversity goals. This body communicates initiatives and expectations to key management personnel throughout the firm and reviews diversity progress and results on a quarterly basis.
The top four goals of the Diversity Council are:
- Enhance Littler Mendelson’s recruiting efforts to promote the hiring of individuals from diverse backgrounds, especially women and persons of color. Each year, Littler Mendelson participates in several minority recruiting job fairs as part of the fall on-campus interview schedule. For the past several years we have been extremely successful in recruiting minorities and women to our summer associate program.
- Financially and philosophically support the Firm’s Diversity Council, which is committed to promoting diversity within the Firm and encouraging those from diverse backgrounds to network with others in our profession to gain knowledge, develop business and encourage one another. Several mentoring and training programs currently in place at Littler pair each incoming associate with a shareholder mentor to help provide the advice and support necessary to foster his/her growth and professional development.
- Include attorneys from diverse backgrounds in the Firm’s management, leadership, training and client development opportunities. As employment lawyers, we see that bringing together people of diverse backgrounds, talents, and perspectives really does spark innovation and is the engine for today’s successful companies. We look to this model of diversity for our own organizational structure and rely upon our diverse talent base to come up with the kind of innovative solutions that the nation’s multicultural workplaces demand.
- Assist our clients in meeting their diversity goals.
